Ein Wochenende mit Craig Boddington im Waldgut Blumberg
Am vorletzten Maiwochenende besuchte uns Craig Boddington, Amerikas bekanntester Jagdjournalist mitsamt seinem Kameramann Michael "Sparky" Sparks um sich eines unserer besten Reviere anzugucken, das Waldgut Blumberg im Nordosten Brandenburgs. In diesem Revier jagen wir im Mai und zur Blattzeit Rehböcke und führen in der Drückjagdsaison zwei Drückjagden auf Rotwild, Rehwild und Schwarzwild durch. Im Waldgut Blumberg wird ausschließlich in diesen Intervallen gejagt. Den Rest des Jahrs herrscht Jagdruhe. This wasn't the biggest roebuck (by far) but it was the oldest, a downhill old buck. European hunters try to shoot old animals, not the biggest. I respect that a lot!
A FEW AWESOME DAYS WITH K&K PREMIUM JAGD

I’ve just spent an amazing few days with Kai-Uwe Kuhl of K&K Premium Jagd (hunt). Just a bit younger than me, Kai-Uwe is one of Germany’s most experienced operators and, quite honestly, one of CBEO’s most experienced hands. I’ve hunted in Germany before, always wonderful, but Kai showed us a part of Germany I didn’t know existed. We know it’s a small country, heavily industrialized with a large human population. I’ve always been struck by how well they take care of their forests and wildlife, maintaining excellent game populations, even close to the many cities and towns.
This trip, Kai took us to Erimar and Mira von der Osten’s Gutwald (“Good Forest”) Blumberg, in the northeast not far from the Polish border. A massive reserve of pristine forest surrounded by big agriculture, one of the least-populated areas in Germany. Lots of roebucks, lots of wild boars, surprising population of red deer. “Sparky” Sparks and I joined a small group of German hunters, hunting by stalking and from white-tail-style high stands. Great guys, good fun, with all the wonderful German hunting traditions that go back 1000 years. Everybody in camp took nice roebucks, a few of us took bonus wild boars, and one of the guys took a red stag. Just an amazing experience, the countryside much more like western Kentucky or my own southeastern Kansas than anything I’ve seen in Europe.
K&K Premium Jagd is based in Dortmund, Germany, offering the full range of European hunting in Germany and neighboring countries…and in more than 30 countries throughout the world. It was a wonderful hunt, staying in a comfortable country inn, shared with good people who are serious hunters. I’ve known Kai for a long time, respect him immensely. But, at this stage in my life, I didn’t think
