The original range of the European mouflon is located on the Mediterranean islands of Corsica and Sardinia. Mouflon can reach wither heights of up to 90 cm, with rams (the males) weighing between 25 kg and 45 kg. The ewes (Schafe) are slightly smaller in terms of body measurements and weight.

As headgear, the rams carry spiraled horns (Schnecken), which they use to engage in ranking fights with other rivals during the rutting season in October and November. The eyesight of the mouflon is highly developed, which makes hunting them quite challenging. When sensing danger, they emit a loud whistle as a warning sound.
