Estonia as a hunting destination

Alongside Russia and Belarus, Estonia is certainly one of the most interesting countries for hunting European moose. Thanks to strict hunting legislation over the past 20 years, the Estonians have managed to foster a moose population (currently around 12,000 animals) that holds its own against any other hunting destination in both quantity and quality. The moose hunting season begins in September, with the Estonians always favoring stalking over high-seat hunting. Based on the harvest logs of recent years, the majority of the moose bulls achieve antler weights between 6 and 9 kg. The ratio of cervine (palmated) to stag-like antlers is roughly 60:40. The hunt demands a high level of skill from both the hunting guide and the guest, as stalking is done for several hours every day. You should prepare yourself well for such a hunt, as pure high-seat hunting for moose promises little success. Hunting the largest deer species on earth is one of the most interesting types of hunting still available to us hunters in Europe.

Situated on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea, Estonia is a very sparsely populated country with an area of 45,339 square kilometers and 1.3 million inhabitants. In terms of size, Estonia is comparable to the German state of Lower Saxony. The lake-rich forest and hill country features many moors and has an average altitude of only 50 meters above sea level. Saaremaa and Hiiumaa are the country's most famous islands. The entire coastline spans 3,794 kilometers and is characterized by several gulfs (such as the Gulf of Riga), straits, and inlets.
