France as a hunting destination

France is economically and politically one of the most important nations in Europe, but with a hunting tradition stretching back roughly 1,000 years, the country also has a great deal to offer hunters. The vast plains, rolling hills, and mountainous regions provide an ideal habitat for many European game species, while the country's centralized structure ensures that rural areas remain sparsely populated. Fascinating landscapes with excellent game populations can be found particularly in Provence, Normandy, Bordeaux, Midi-Pyrénées, and Brittany.

With a total area of 547,026 km², France has a population of around 58.8 million. The country borders Belgium and Luxembourg to the north, Great Britain to the northwest (separated by the English Channel), Germany, Switzerland, and Italy to the east, and Spain to the south. To the west, the country meets the Bay of Biscay in the Atlantic Ocean. The most prominent city and one of Europe's most vital metropolises is the capital, Paris, located in the north. The western and central regions are dominated by the lowlands of the Aquitaine and Paris Basins and the Rhône-Saône furrow. The primary mountain ranges are the Pyrenees in the south, the Massif Central in the center, and the Vosges and the Alps in the east—with Mont Blanc (4,810 m) standing as the country's highest peak. In terms of climate, France offers a Mediterranean climate along the coasts, a Central European climate inland, and an alpine climate in the mountain regions.
