Scotland as a hunting destination

Scotland is a country with a rich and long hunting tradition. Above all, the focus here is on the sporting aspects of hunting, namely, the stalk. You will not find high seats in the Highlands. Instead, you will find a rugged and jagged landscape of breathtaking beauty. Treeless slopes and valleys covered in heather, always with the wind in your face and the slightly salty taste of the sea air on your lips—that is what defines the Highlands. They are also famous, of course, for a red deer density that you will not find anywhere else in Europe.

With a total area of 78,772 km², Scotland has a population of around 5 million. The country has only one direct land border, with England to the south; otherwise, it is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea. The most significant cities are the capital, Edinburgh, in the east and the country's largest city, Glasgow, in the west. Scotland is geographically divided into the Lowlands and the Highlands. The Highlands begin north of the cities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Perth, while the areas south of them and along the coast up to Aberdeen belong to the Lowlands. In terms of landscape, the Lowlands are characterized by smaller hills and mountains, long valleys, and bays that reach deep into the interior. The majority of the population lives in these areas. In the Highlands, on the other hand, stand the large, barren mountains. Here, the landscape is largely uninhabited, and numerous lochs and bogs shape the region. The climate in Scotland is oceanic and becomes cooler with increasing altitude; generally, it gets warmer from east to west, but also rainfall increases.
