Spain as a hunting destination
Spain is a country of tradition and modernity, of metropolises and fishing villages, of coasts and mountain ranges. In no other Southern European country is there such a wide variety as in Spain. Whether you are hiking through picturesque hilly landscapes, enjoying the culture shaped by Orient and Occident, or relaxing on the beach, every Spanish region has something special to offer. However, many people are not aware that Spain is also a highly interesting hunting destination. There are excellent populations of Iberian ibex, Mallorcan wild goat, Barbary sheep, chamois, red deer, and wild boar. A special highlight is the outstanding hunting for the fast red-legged partridge.
Spain has a total area of 504,645 km² and around 46.7 million inhabitants. The country borders the Atlantic Ocean and France to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the east, the Mediterranean Sea to the south—separated by Morocco and Algeria—and Portugal to the west. The most important cities are the capital Madrid in the center and the metropolis Barcelona in the northeast of the country.
Spain is located entirely on the Iberian Peninsula and occupies about 85% of its area. The country is predominantly mountainous. The core is formed by the highland plateau, also known as the Iberian Meseta, which lies at altitudes of 500 to 900 meters. Grain farming is widely practiced here, but wine and olive cultivation as well as sheep farming also play an important role. Numerous mountain ranges shape the country. In the north, on the border with France, lie the Pyrenees. To the west of the Pyrenees lies the Cantabrian Mountains, which run parallel to the northern coast. The Central System runs centrally from west to east through Spain. Further south, the lower Sierra Morena, which also runs from west to east, separates the central plateau from the Guadalquivir Valley. Finally, in the far south, the Baetic System runs along the Mediterranean coast from Gibraltar to just south of Valencia.
