Sweden as a hunting destination
Sweden is one of the most interesting hunting destinations in Europe. It is known for its high moose harvests and bird hunting for all four occurring grouse species. What very few people know, however, is that due to the numerous bodies of water in the south of the country and the prevailing mild continental climate, a mallard population has developed that is unparalleled in Europe.
With a total size of 450,295 km² and 9.5 million inhabitants, Sweden is a very sparsely populated country. It borders the Kattegat, Norway, Finland, and the Baltic Sea. Large parts of the country are flat to gently rolling; only along the Norwegian border does the Scandes mountain range run (the highest elevation being Mount Kebnekaise at 2,111 m). There are hardly any forests in the entire southern part of the country, where agriculture is predominantly practiced. It is not until Central Sweden that the forested areas expand, leading into the typical boreal coniferous forests of the north.
