Zimbabwe as a hunting destination

Wonderful, soft morning light, impressive sunsets, a cozy gathering around the evening camel-thorn fire, starlit nights under the Southern Cross—these are just a few of the triggers for the well-known "African fever" (Bazillus Africanus). Hunting in Zimbabwe is unique thanks to the fascinating wildlife with its incredible biodiversity in breathtaking landscapes.

Zimbabwe, with its capital Harare, is a landlocked country in the northern part of southern Africa. Its size of 390,757 square kilometers corresponds roughly to the combined area of Germany and the Netherlands; the population stands at around 12 million. The name Zimbabwe ("stone houses" in the local Shona language) traces back to the ruined city now known as Great Zimbabwe, the largest pre-colonial stone structures in southern Africa. The mighty Zambezi River forms the northern border with Zambia, while the Limpopo forms the southern border with South Africa. The country borders Botswana to the west and Mozambique to the east. The elevation ranges from about 500 meters above sea level in the northern Zambezi Valley to around 1,500 meters in the center of the country, the so-called Highveld, before dropping back down to around 300 meters toward the southeast. The highest elevation is Mount Nyangani at 2,592 meters, located in the Eastern Highlands north of Mutare in Nyanga National Park. The official language is English, and various tribal dialects are also spoken. Zimbabwe is an extraordinarily diverse and scenic country with a multitude of virtually untouched areas. Lake Kariba, one of the largest reservoirs in the world with an abundance of wildlife and fish, and the famous Victoria Falls, the largest of their kind on Earth, are well worth a trip. You can be sure of a warm welcome as a hunter. The supply situation, which was difficult until a few years ago, has also eased due to the de facto abolition of the local currency—US dollars and the South African rand are widely accepted means of payment.
