Trophy hunt

Sierra Morena, Spain

The Sierra Morena is known across the country´s borders for excellent big game hunting areas. About 1 hour drive north of Cordoba, near the village of Villaciosa de Cordoba, lies the 600 hectare private estate "Dehesa El Palomar".

This mountainous area dominated by pine forests and oaks is the Eldorado for hunters and stalkers. There are no Monterías in this area but only single hunts with a maximum of 2 hunters at a time. The hunting area is hunted gently and sustainably and offers the guests hunting as on their own hunting grounds. We recommend 3 to a maximum of 7 hunting days.

Hunting season/hunting method

All-occurring hoofed game is active early in the morning until about 9:00 a.m., before retiring to the "siesta" in the shady woods. From about 3:00 p.m. it will be active again and visible. During the moonlight phase, you can go out for hunting wild boars at night.

The estimated red deer population is about 50 red stags, of which 7 to 8 stags per year may be harvested. Spikers are not free but all older stags may be hunted. The classification is not based on weight, but on the number of antler points.

Approximately 15 fallow stags and 50 females pass through this hunting area and 2 fallow stags are shot per year. Fallow stags must have an antler length of 25 cm and more. This classification is explained to the hunter before the hunt by showing bagged trophies.

From the approx. 80 mouflons 2 to 3 rams per year are shot. Every hunter strives to shoot a full curl, which is perfectly possible on Dehesa El Palomar.

The wild boar population is tied to 8 grazings and up to 20 boars are shot per hunting season. The hunting season runs from 15th of October to 15th of February. That means, during the red deer rut it´s still closed season and the hunting season begins only with the fallow deer rut.

The appropriate clothing depends on the season in which you want to hunt. Windproof and breathable clothing and well-worn, the ankle-stabilizing footwear are generally recommended in mountain hunts. When hunting in the mountains you shoot more often at long distances than usual and therefore you should definitely have a variable target optics with appropriate magnification. Likewise,  a powerful pair of binoculars (at least 10x magnification), a spotting scope and a rangefinder are very helpful. We recommend a robust repeater rifle with a powerful caliber.

Especially for non-hunting escorts, the hacienda is ideal, as a large pool for swimming and a lake for fishing invite. The proximity to Córdoba also offers the possibility to combine hunting with visiting tourist attractions. Therefore, it is advisable to rent a car at Seville or Malaga airport for maximum flexibility.

The owner family takes care of you personally during your stay. The lady of the house is responsible for the lodge operations and the culinary delights, her husband is responsible for all hunting affairs.
