(Dama dama)

The ancestral form of the fallow deer, the Persian fallow deer (Dama dama mesopotamica), originates from Iran. In Europe, the European fallow deer (Dama dama dama) was originally native to Greece but was introduced to other European countries at a very early stage by the Romans. The fallow deer is a medium-sized species of true deer. It can reach shoulder heights of up to 110 cm and live weights of up to 120 kg.

Older stags are typically solitary; otherwise, fallow deer live in herds separated by sex. This diurnal game species is not particularly sedentary and is relatively resilient to disturbances. During the rut, the hinds (Kahlwild) travel to the rutting grounds. The strongest stags defend their rutting pits (Brunftkuhlen) there and wait for the females.

Fallow deer possess better eyesight than most other species of hoofed game (Schalenwild), but their sense of hearing is less developed. The summer coat is reddish-brown with white spots and a black dorsal stripe, whereas the winter coat is darker and lacks spots. Individual animals with completely white or black coats also occur occasionally.a

The European roe deer is the most widespread and common species of hoofed game (Schalenwild) in Europe. Depending on the region, weights of up to 30 kg can be achieved. It is a highly sedentary forest and field dweller loyal to its territory. In the summer, the bucks roam alone, while the does (Ricken) stay with their fawns (Kitzen). In contrast, roe deer gather in small or large groups, known as herds (Sprünge), during the winter.

The bucks establish their territories in March or April and defend them against competitors until the end of the rutting season (Blattzeit) in August. Roe deer are primarily active during the early morning and evening hours.

Their sense of smell is highly developed, and they are also quick to detect rapid movements. Harvestable bucks in Western Bohemia carry very strong antlers, averaging around 340 g to 380 g. For anyone who enjoys roebuck hunting, Bohemia is certainly an excellent destination.

The wild boar belongs to the family of Old World or true pigs. Due to its exceptionally high adaptability, it is found continuously from Europe to Southeast Asia. Furthermore, there are also substantial populations in North Africa, making the wild boar one of the most widely distributed game species in the world. The intensification of agriculture in particular has contributed to the widespread distribution and population growth of the wild boar. Depending on the habitat, they can reach live weights of up to 350 kg and shoulder heights of up to 120 cm.

Wild boars possess a highly developed social structure and live in small to large sounders. These groups usually consist of several sows, yearlings, and piglets, and are led by an experienced matriarch (Leitbache). Older boars (Keiler) are generally solitary and only seek out the proximity of the sounders during the breeding season (Rauschzeit).

High intelligence, along with an excellent sense of smell and hearing, makes hunting wild boar a constant challenge. This is precisely what constitutes its unique appeal.
