The Eastern Cape is steeped in legend and holds immense cultural and historical significance: it is a land of stories—tales of Xhosa kings, early settlers, cultural conflicts, and frontier battles. As the birthplace of Nelson Mandela, the province also played a pivotal role as a driving force behind the intensified struggle against apartheid and for democracy in Africa.
The largest tract of land—spanning 30,000 hectares and known as the "Bush Area"—is located approximately a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Grahamstown. This vast reserve, characterized by expansive, flat grasslands interspersed with dense thickets across hilly terrain, serves as home to over 25 wildlife species. It also harbors one of the largest populations in the Eastern Cape of Cape buffalo, kudu, oryx, impala, springbok, waterbuck, and—most notably—warthogs.

After a quick breakfast, you set out in the early morning hours—usually just before sunrise—for your first stalk alongside your professional hunter and tracker. Initially, you will drive to elevated vantage points to glass the vast landscape. Should suitable game be spotted, you will stalk it on foot, utilizing every available bit of cover and the wind to your advantage. Following a subsequent second breakfast or lunch, you head out for another stalk in the afternoon. You then bring the day to a close with a magnificent dinner on the veranda or by the fire at the lodge.

The grounds of the 5-star Salisbury Plain Lodge encompass three bungalows. Three additional rooms are available within the main lodge building itself. This lodge and its bungalows leave nothing to be desired, and the spacious grounds provide ample room for a sense of exclusive privacy. Plunge pools and a private terrace in front of each bungalow—along with a large swimming pool, a bar area, and exquisite interior furnishings—complete the picture of this exceptional retreat.
The Ezulu Tented Camp exudes an atmosphere of tranquility and unspoiled authenticity—qualities that every African hunter dreams of finding. Three substantial tents are available, each equipped with underfloor heating as well as a spacious en-suite bathroom featuring a shower, a bathtub, and double washbasins. A generous terrace with a campfire pit, located adjacent to the main lodge, invites guests to relax and unwind in comfort after a strenuous day of hunting. Depending on the weather and the time of day, meals are served either inside the lodge, out on the terrace, or in the privacy of your own tent.
Located in the eastern sector of the reserve, Zingela Lodge presents itself as a quintessential hunting lodge. When required, two double rooms and two single rooms are available for use within the main lodge building. Additionally, four separate bungalows are situated in close proximity to the main lodge. A magnificent rooftop terrace offering panoramic vistas allows the senses to roam free, while the swimming pool provides a constant invitation to cool off and refresh yourself. In the evenings, guests gather at the rustic bar to share tales of their hunting adventures over a refreshing gin and tonic. You are sure to be delighted.
Our hunting grounds are ideally suited for family vacations, group trips, or solo hunters. The opportunity to experience the enchanting beauty and diverse landscapes of the Eastern Cape—all within a single journey seamlessly organized by a dedicated tour operator—represents a significant advantage. Should you desire absolute privacy, two beachfront houses—situated directly on the Sunshine Coast in Kleinemonde and offering stunning ocean views—are also available for your exclusive use. Each of these features either three double rooms or two single rooms. The beach houses can be rented for extended periods—for instance, during the summer or the Christmas season. We offer full board, though the houses may also be rented on a self-catering basis.

A Recommended Itinerary for South Africa
South Africa is not only a fantastic hunting destination; it practically begs to be explored. As South Africa is politically stable and safe, such trips are also well-suited for hunters traveling with their families. Here is a suggested itinerary that we have developed in collaboration with one of South Africa’s most renowned tour operators.
Day 1: Drive by rental car (Dacia Duster Dynamics) to the "Hog Hollow Country Lodge," located within the Brackenridge Residential Private Estate. Sightseeing at various local attractions; overnight stay in a comfortable suite.
Day 2: Scenic tour of the surrounding area’s attractions. Overnight stay at the lodge mentioned above.
Day 3: Drive by rental car to the "Harbour House Hotel" in Hermanus. Sightseeing drive and whale watching; overnight stay in a luxurious guest room.
Day 4: Sightseeing at various attractions; overnight stay in a guest room.
Day 5: Continue onward to the "Victoria & Alfred Hotel" in Cape Town. Peninsula Tour. Overnight stay in a comfortable room.
Day 6: Mountain hike and sightseeing; overnight stay in a comfortable room.
Day 7: Tour of various wine regions; return trip to the hotel.
