South Africa's rural Free State province lies somewhat off the beaten tourist track. Most travelers only get a brief glimpse of the province—situated on the Karoo plateau—while driving along the N1 freeway from Cape Town to Johannesburg. However, those who take a little more time will discover—in addition to the relatively well-known Golden Gate National Park—a wide range of other interesting destinations in the Free State, which are showcased in this menu.
The landscape of the Free State is dominated by the terrain of the South African interior plateau, the Karoo. The climate is continental, featuring hot summers and cold winters. Annual rainfall ranges from 500 to 700 mm, with higher levels in the east than in the west.
The Free State region was settled by the Voortrekkers early in South Africa's history. Recognizing the fertility of the soil, they began cultivating maize and wheat, while turning to sheep farming in the drier regions.

Although the area is heavily shaped by agriculture, we have access to magnificent and diverse hunting grounds—spanning the Bushveld, savanna, and local desert areas—covering a total of 75,000 hectares. We offer a range of accommodations to suit every preference, from tented camps to 5-star lodges. Despite being located in the heart of South Africa with no access to the sea, the Free State boasts numerous attractions and national parks.

After a quick breakfast in the early morning—usually just before sunrise—you set out on your first stalk with your professional hunter and tracker. You begin by driving to vantage points to scan the vast landscape with binoculars. If suitable game is spotted, you stalk towards it, making use of available cover and the wind. After a mid-morning snack or lunch, you head out for another stalk in the afternoon. You then round off the evening with a magnificent dinner on the veranda or by the fire at the lodge.
