Banteng Australia

In addition to the water buffalo, the Banteng is the second wild cattle that you can hunt in Australia today. With good senses, the hunt for Bantengs is not easy and requires a lot of dedication and skill. Unlike the water buffalo, the horns grow crescent-shaped upwards and reach lengths of up to 70 cm and more. A hunt for individualists who are interested in rare and impressive trophies.

Informations Banteng (Bos javanicus)

In its ancestral form, the wild Banteng (bos javanicus) can only be found in a few parts of Java and Thailand. There he is under the strictest protection. However, this wild cattle was brought to Australia many decades ago. According to serious estimates, meanwhile, between 8,000 and 10,000 live in Arnhemland alone.

One of the most coveted trophies in Australia is the Banteng. This huge wild cattle has live weights between 500 kg and 900 kg and in its dimensions is in no way inferior to an African buffalo.

Banteng cows live in more or less large herds, while the bulls in small squads or even solitary pull their track. Both sexes wear horns. Normal horn lengths are between 40 cm and 60 cm, top trophies also reach 70 cm and more.

Hunting / Season

Hunting takes place exclusively in the months of July to September. Then your chances are best and the climate for us Central Europeans quite compatible. It's a tough, demanding hunt on foot that demands a lot from the guest hunter. Early in the morning you start, you stalk through jungle-like stocks, past open areas, cross some swamp and water-bearing river until Bantengs come into sight. If a bull is available, it will be stalked in good wind. As a rule, shooting takes place usually at close distances of less than fifty meters.

Equipment

Important is well-worn footwear with grippy soles. Breathable shorts and T-shirts are recommended, as well as a wide-brimmed hat that protects you from the sun. Depending on the location of the hunting area, there are mosquitoes, especially in the area of stagnant or slowly flowing waters, which are annoying but do not pose any danger. All of Australia is malaria free. Proven mosquito repellent is available at the camp. Who hunts for big game, needs strong caliber. Minimum caliber should be the 9.3 x 74 R or a .375 H & H Magnum. Even better suited are .458 Winchester, .378 Weatherby Magnum, .416 Rigby or all Nitro-Express cartridges from .450. Especially for buffalo hunts, we have put together a special checklist that we will gladly send you when booking.

Accommodation

During your hunt, you will stay in well-equipped tent camps in the hunting area. There is a kitchen and lounge tent, usually with canopy. Sleeping tents are equipped with two beds, a small table with chairs. Everything is practically arranged, you will like it.
