Cameroon - this is a country for foreign hunters heavily attacked by the'bázillus africanus'. Not for Africa beginners and nothing for those who after strenuous stalking demand a 5-star hotel. Those who do not shy away from hardships and do not lose their good mood after a day without game sight are in good hands here. A hunt in the rainforest under the leadership of pygmies on Africa's most beautiful antelope is an experience you will never forget. Here the specialist is needed, the real hunter in the truest sense of the word. We have been working for years with probably the most profound professional hunter in Cameroon. There are only a few guests who are drawn to this West African country each year, but everyone has been satisfied so far.

Information Bongo (Tragelaphus eurycerus)

The bongo is a spiral horn antelope found in the rainforests of western and central Africa. Scientifically, a distinction is made between the Western Bongo (Tragelaphus eurycerus eurycerus) and the Eastern Bongo or Kenya Bongo (Tragelaphus eurycerus isaaci). Both sexes wear horns. Male bongos have a shoulder height of about 1.25 m with live weights up to 280 kg. Striking is the red to chestnut-colored blanket, which has 10 to 16 white stripes on each side of the body. According to many hunters, the bongo is the 'most beautiful' antelope in Africa.

Hunting / Season

Hunting season in the rainforest is from December to the end of July. If you are hunting for bongo, we recommend the time between March and July, as noiseless stalking is only possible during the rainy season. The bongo hunt with local trackers takes place almost exclusively on the prowl. Often, after a downpour or rain, bongos are in motion. Once you have located a fresh and promising trail, the trackers, mostly Pygmies, start their impressive work and follow the tracks in the dense rainforest. The dogs are left loose as soon as you are near the bongo. Then it's time to be ready - a strong bongo bull can not be tied up by dogs for long.

For hunting in the rainforest, we recommend rugged repeaters or double rifles in high-performance calibers such as .375 H & H Magnum, .416 Rigby or .458 Winchester with soft point bullets (Swift-A-Frame projectiles have proven to be successful). The rifle scope should be variable and be able to be turned down to 1.5 or 2 times. If you are confident and have practiced before, the shot over the chin and grain is beneficial. The shooting distances, especially on bongo, are mostly quite short. Especially for Cameroon hunts we have prepared a special equipment checklist.

During the hunt you will be accomodated in tent camps (in Tanzania style). There are several in the entire hunting area. Everything is rustic but functional. There is a makeshift shower in the camp, as well as satellite phone.
