Tanzania Robin Hurt

Tanzania, with nearly 50 million inhabitants and about 950 million km² area is the 6th largest country of the African continent and is known as the classic safari country on the Big Five. Tanzania is the land of the great craters and volcanoes and the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro at 5,895 meters above sea level, as well as the three large lakes (Malawi, Lake Tanganyika and Lake Victoria).

In the northwest is the Serengeti, one of the most famous national parks in Africa and the Masailand. Dream of every Africa hunter. Year after year, many hunters and photographers visit Selous National Park, Africa's largest game reserve, named after Frederik Courtney Selous. Unfortunately, poaching has gotten rife and it is only a matter of time, if there, as in Kenya, the game stocks are sustainably damaged. State control fails on a large scale. The bulk of the hunting tour operators frolicking in the Selous, but prohibiting the import of ivory and lion trophies in the US, it is difficult for many outfitters to maintain the safari operation.

Informations Tanzania

About 75% of the country is wilderness, most of which includes national parks, game reserves or hunting grounds. A large part of the Tanzanian wilderness consists of the famous Miombo forests. These forest savannahs are home to a unique biodiversity, although the game densities are not as high as in northern Tanzania, the Masailand or the Serengeti ecosystem. For the Miombo forests, their wilderness and the wild species living in them, there are no fences and the game can roam boundlessly. In particular, the buffalo pull long distances and very often cross different hunting areas. At the beginning of the hunting season the grass can still be very high and limit the visibility. On the other hand, it is the best hunting season for big cats on the Bait. A certain physical physique and good condition of the hunter noticeably increases the chances. Also important is patience and perseverance in the blind. All occurring wild species are native there, not exposed and come from a natural population.

Hunting / Season

The hunting season starts on the 1st of July and ends on the 31st of December. The driest months are from July to October. During this time we hunt in all regions. With the beginning of the rainy season in November, we concentrate on our Camp Burko in Masailand until the end of the season.

Equipment

In addition to the usual equipment for a hunt in Africa, special attention must be paid to running in light footwear and seamless stockings made of modern fibers. Cotton gets wet quickly and softens the feet at high temperatures. It is best to take two pairs of ankle-high boots with you, especially as you follow the trail, you can quickly walk a few miles. Here's the old rule: for every pound of ivory the hunter has to walk a mile!

As for the hunting weapon, of course, there is the never-ending dispute pro or contra double rifle or repeater. If you can shoot well over the open sight or a red dot sight, then with a double rifle you are not sure under .450 / .470 NE; at the repeater the suitable calibers start at .416 Rigby. In any case, the caliber must be well tolerated and standing free-hand the hunter should be able to hit a can over fifty meters .
