And last but not least, beautiful areas in the High Tatras, the Beskids and in the Great and Small Hungarian Plain. From the strong mountain stag over capital roe bucks to the rare wild turkey. Informations about wild turkey (Meleagris Gallopavo)

The wild turkey is a species of turkeys originally native to North America. With a live weight of up to 10 kg (hens are clearly lighter), the wild turkey is one of the largest airworthy birds on earth. The plumage is dark brown to black, whereby head and throat are completely unfeathered. Recent research has shown that the life expectancy (which has been proven by ringed birds) can be 10 to 12 years. However, the professional hunters of Palarikovo - our hunting area - assume a much shorter life expectancy. The oldest gobblers that are shot every year are five to a maximum of six years old. The age can be seen on the spur and the beard, that grows from the chest.

Hunting method/Hunting season

Turkeys may be hunted in Slovakia from 16th of March to 15th of May and then again in autumn from 1st of October to 31st of December. We recommend the spring hunt, because the excited rolling during courtship is a unique natural spectacle. Both, shot (4 mm to 4. 5 mm) and bullet (.22 Hornet or .222 Remington or similar) are permitted. The most promising type of hunting is stalking. 

Equipment

Just use clothing like for roebuck hunting in spring. So you are optimally equipped.

Accomodation

We recommend the guesthouse Zitava, which is located less than 10 minutes by car from the hunting area. Those who love luxurious hotels can also stay at Palarikovo hunting castle.
