Roebuck

Czech Republic

It starts on May 16th! Hunting roe deer in the Czech Republic - an important date to remember. Like many European hunters the Czechs are crazy about roebucks as well.

In the Bohemian hunting grounds you will usually stalk, although hunting from a raised hide is also possible. But the ultimate kind of hunting is just stalking the roebuck in this varied and open landscape. Several hunting areas of many thousands of hectares are available to our guests, especially in the regions of Konstantinovy and Pilsen.

Informations about European roe deer (Capreolus capreolus capreolus)

European roe deer is the most widespread and most common hoofed game in Europe. Depending on the region, weights of up to 30 kg can be achieved. It is a very territory-loyal forest and field inhabitant. In summer, the bucks mostly stand alone, the does stand together with fawns. In the winter time roe deer join together in small herds. The bucks occupy their territories in March/April and defended them against competitors until the end of the rut in August.

Roe deer is primarily active in the early morning and evening hours. The sense of smell is pronounced, the eyes are not the best but roe deer can notice faster motions.

The shootable bucks in western Bohemia have very strong trophies, on average around 340 g to 380 g. For those who enjoy roebuck hunting, Bohemia is certainly a good address.

Hunting method/hunting season

Roebucks may be hunted in the Czech Republic from May 16th. Most hunters prefer roe deer hunting during spring when vegetation is still low and hunting pressure has been very low for several months. But you also have the best chances during the rutting season, especially if you understand how to handle the roe deer call.

Hunting takes place on the stalk with a 1:1 guidance by local roe deer experts who are best acquainted with land and game. Due to the size of the hunting areas, 4x4 vehicles are used to hunt even in the remotest corners. Hunting from a raised hide is also possible on request.

Equipment

In short, you need the same equipment for this hunt as for roe deer hunting in your local hunting grounds. All deer-suited calibres can be used, such as calibres from .243 Winchester up to. 30-06. Furthermore, you need well-worn footwear and weather- and windresistant, low-noise clothing. Good binoculars and, if necessary, a shooting stick complete the equipment.

Accomodation

During your stay, you will live in well-developed hunting lodges in the hunting area. In the last 15 years the Czech hunting managers have put a lot of money and effort into the extension or renovating of these houses so that you will be satisfied. The Czech cuisine enjoys a very good reputation and you will find that this is quite justified.
